A Quick Announcement

Okay, let's see if I can type this. The due date is October 6.

Here's a brief background for what led up to this:

Blissful Ignorance, March -- Linda feels tired and nauseous all the time, but she never stops to consider that she might be pregnant. She's a nurse, but the fact never crosses her mind. In fact, she goes to the doctor to check on the possibility of ulcers...

D-Day, April 6 -- We had talked about driving home to Illinois for the weekend, but in the end, we opt not to. That evening, Linda discovers the truth of her new reality. She estimates that she's probably 8 weeks along.

Denial, April 6-12 -- I choose not to believe that my life is about to change.

Acceptance, April 13 -- We go in for the first ultrasound. Is this an elaborate hoax? There's something on the screen. Maybe it's just a big tapeworm? Nope, that's a future baby alright, and 15 weeks along.

Change, April 15 -- Cancel the cruise plans for October, and see how non-refundable, non-refunable airline tickets really are.

    october 6 - a tried and true date for a very sensitive, creative kid. (careful - ours tied his umbilical cord in a knot....)

    Congrats to you and Linda! I'm so glad to see you joining the Parent World!

    I know six people with October birthdays. Obviously October is a good time to have a baby!

    Good luck and best wishes. I'm very happy for both of you! Does an Administrative Assistant have any special baby duties, like babysitting so you can work?! =)

Bill Bennett is a very common name. Right now, I'm reading a book by the Australian film maker Bill Bennett. He hiked the Camino in 2013 and then wrote a book (and made an Australian movie, not available in the U.S.) about it.  Seems he kept a blog about that hike, too. Jesus and the Inconvenience of His Word to American Christians

I'm not a preacher, but if you follow the teachings of Jesus, it was he who said: Do to others as you would have them do to you. That's from Luke 6:31 , and reading all of Luke 6 isn't a bad way to spend five minutes of your time.  https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=luke%206&version=NIV I guess a lot of Christians understand the Golden Rule and practice it in their daily lives. Others, however, especially political Christians (and specifically those promoting Christian Nationalism) seem to ignore the Golden Rule. They don't care about humanitarian issues. They claim they either don't exist, aren't the problem of the United States, or are the fault of the victims. They counter with distractions like, "Why do you care so much about THEM when you should be caring about the REAL people who matter?"
